Sighthill Voices

Our Parish Profile

The majority of our parish consists of the Sighthill housing scheme, extending to Keppochhill Road in the north and Petershill Road in the east.  This gives us a well-defined, self-contained community with no other church in the parish.

However, in recent years much of the housing in Sighthill has been demolished and the population has declined. From 2400 homes the total has been reduced to around 500 of which 416 are flats to be demolished, leaving approximately 84 low-rise buildings on Fountainwell Road.

Currently, around 50% of tenants are either asylum seekers or refugees.  Many people who arrived as asylum seekers are now very much part of the church fellowship and the wider community.

There are three schools in the parish: St. Kevin’s (R.C. Additional Support Needs); St. Stephen’s (R.C. Primary); Sighthill Nursery School.  A new educational campus is planned.

The Glasgow city council regeneration plans will dramatically change the composition of the local population.
